Just because they contain the same notes doesn't mean they're the same.

Too much emphasis is put on different devices containing the same notes by intermediate and beginners to theory. I believe it causes a lot of confusion.

A good example is the relative major and minor pentatonics.

It’s very common to see most guitarists have little to no major pentatonic vocabulary.

They very often just move the minor pentatonic down 3 frets to access the major pentatonic.

This results in playing minor oriented ideas over major chords.

If your minor pentatonic resolves to the root and you play that same idea 3 frets down to access the major pentatonic then you’ll be resolving to the 6th which is not a strong resolution on a major chord at all.

Just because different devices contain the same notes does not make them the same.

Major pentatonic vocabulary has ‘a sound’ and it’s not the same sound as minor pentatonic. In the exact same way as Am7 has a different sound than C6 despite both containing the same notes.

Trying to eliminate this derivative and unspecific way of thinking will help your playing and understanding of theory imo.
